Just over 3 months ago, a group of individuals, all passionate about inclusive sport, were still dreaming about starting a community organisation to help level up the opportunities for young adults with learning disabilities to take part in sport, including football. Then it happened!
Inclusive United Community Interest Company launched in September 2023. Grovehill Adventure Playground in Hemel Hempstead were incredibly supportive and Inclusive United were able to begin their inclusive football and multi-sports sessions. Young adults with learning disabilities 18+ began to join the fun, play football and games and have some social time indoors too with the pool and table tennis. The group numbers gradually grew and now every Monday 10.30am to 11.30am there are inclusive football sessions for all abilities and multi-sports from 11.30am to 12.30. Click here to book on a session.
Then came the opportunity to start Women's Walking Football which fits with Inclusive United's passion for levelling up opportunities for underrepresented groups. The session was born out of meeting parents/carers/women who wanted to play football! A fun session run by Inclusive United female coaches runs every Tuesday 12-1at Grovehill Adventure Playground Astro in Hemel. The laughter from these fun, supportive football sessions can be heard across the open fields adjacent to the astro. This friendly group is increasing in size and in the next few months as well as continuing with Women's Walking Football, Football sessions will also begin.
One of our Founders, Thomas, who is the inspiration behind Inclusive United, was adamant that there should be an indoor futsal session. He was right! These sessions running out of Herts Sports Village in Hatfield every Thursday and Friday are extremely successful and well received.
As we enter 2024, we are now planning yoga/pilates/strengthening sessions, more futsal sessions, more inclusive football sessions in other parts of Herts and a new Inclusive Sports and Social Hub for young adults with learning disabilities in Hemel.
Inclusive United are definitely are showing their dreams already!
